St. Joseph Allamano: 5. Holiness and Hope

“In today’s world, surrounded by crisis and despair, hope is not a luxury, it is a vital necessity. And, like the lighthouse for sailors, it remains still, lit, inviting us to continue, even when all seems lost”.

These quotes are taken from the fourth meditation on the journey of preparation for the Centenary of the birth into heaven of Saint Giuseppe Allamano (16 February 2026). This journey, throughout the Consolata Family in the world, began with the feast of the Foundation of the two Institutes, celebrated on 29 January 2025.

“Pope Francis, in this Jubilee Year, has invited us to live our faith as a journey, reminding us that Christian life is a continuous pilgrimage to God. Hope, in this context, is not simply optimism or desire for a better future, but a theological virtue based on the certainty that God is faithful to his promises”.

“St. Joseph Allamano pointed out to his uncle Giuseppe Cafasso as a model of hope that all his missionaries had to follow”.

The first reflection in March invited us to meditate on “Holiness and God Alone.” In April, in the second meditation we reflected on “Holiness and the Eucharistic Dimension of Life.”  “Holiness and the spirit of prayer’ was the theme of the third meditation in May. The fourth reflection in June was entitled “The Consolata, a living presence in our journey of holiness’. We are now publishing the fifth, entitled ‘Holiness and Hope’.
