On the occasion of the opening of the Year of Community Life by the Consolata Missionaries, the entire Institute enters a special time of reflection, renewal, and grace. This initiative, proposed by the General Government, invites every missionary and every community to rediscover the beauty and the demanding call of living together as brothers for the mission. The year was officially launched on March 2, 2026, in their various communities, and it will formally conclude on March 2, 2027.

The main purpose of this year is to reflect deeply on community life: to remember the past with gratitude, to live the present joyfully within our communities, and to look toward the future with hope. We missionaries, who come from different tribes, nations, languages, races, and cultural backgrounds, are called to live together in community. For this reason, it is fitting that we pause to examine how we live this vocation. This reflection is meant to help us strengthen fraternity and unity among themselves, renew their missionary life, and grow toward greater perfection, for Christ calls us to be perfected in unity (cf. John 17:23).

The Constitutions of the Consolata Missionaries state that: “Authentic community life presupposes that we live and grow in friendship, sincerity, mutual understanding and esteem. In our communities each missionary should be regarded with the highest esteem. He should be welcomed with confidence and love. We should appreciate and make the best use of the gifts bestowed on each member by the Spirit and draw from the richness of everyone’s culture” (no. 30).
The General Government highlights that the Constitutions, which will accompany us throughout this year, are the treasure that the Founder entrusted to us as a rule of life and a path to holiness. In them we recognize the wisdom that has formed generations of missionaries and continues to guide our service to the Church and to peoples. The revision process requested by the General Chapter calls us to a serious, humble, and shared discernment, so that what we have received may be safeguarded and renewed with creative fidelity.

But is community life a calling only for the Consolata Missionaries? Absolutely no. It is a message for the whole world. From the very beginning of creation, humanity has lived this proposal through families, clans, tribes, and nations. Yet, as is often the case, living in a true community has never been without challenges.
Today, our world urgently needs authentic community life, built on respect, mutual appreciation, loving acceptance, and mutual support, especially along the journey of faith. Many of the conflicts and problems we witness at every level from small domestic disagreements to international disputes, arise from a failure to reflect and recognize life as a gift from God. Because life is God’s gift, it must be lived according to His plan: in fraternity and unity.
Reflecting on this proposal, Fr. Rodrick Minja, Regional Superior of Tanzania–Madagascar, encouraged all members to embrace this year wholeheartedly. His message was clear and direct: “Let us live it with ardent zeal”. “Community life, he reminded everyone, does not grow automatically. It depends on our will. If we are not willing to practice authentic community life, then all our efforts, structures, and plans lose their meaning. Without personal commitment, even the best initiatives become fruitless”.

This year, therefore, is not merely a celebration marked on the calendar. It is a call to conversion of heart. It challenges each missionary to take responsibility for fostering unity, mutual understanding, forgiveness, and genuine fraternity within their communities. It is an opportunity to renew the missionary spirit by strengthening the bonds that hold them together as one family.
He pointed out that as the Institute embarks on this journey of grace, prayers rise to God through St. Joseph Allamano, the Founder, whose vision of unity and charity continues to inspire his sons and daughters. May he intercede for the Institute, so that this year may bear abundant fruits. And may Our Lady, Consolata, accompany and guide us to live this special year not only for the good of the Institute, but also as a prophetic witness to the entire world, a world that longs for true communion, peace, and brotherhood.
