The Holy Father has appointed as Coadjutor Bishop of Meru (Kenya) the Rev. Father Jackson Murugara, Consolata Missionary, until now parish priest and Rector of the Consolata Shrine, in the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
Father Jackson Murugara, I.M.C., was born on 7 April 1970 in Kamanyaki, Tharaka Nithi County, in the Diocese of Meru. After entering the Institute of the Consolata Missionaries, he completed his studies in Philosophy at the Consolata Institute of Philosophy in Nairobi and in Theology at the Missionary Institute in London. He made his perpetual profession on 18 November 2000 and was ordained a priest on 15 August 2001, in the Diocese of Meru.
He has held the following positions and completed further studies: Parish collaborator of Kagaene and Mujwa, in the Diocese of Meru (2001-2002); Parish vicar of Chiga, in the Archdiocese of Kisumu (2002-2003); Formator of postulants at the Consolata Seminary in Nairobi (2003-2009); Licentiate in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality “Teresianum” in Rome (2011); Director of the pastoral centers Bethany House and Charity Home, in the Diocese of Muranga (2011-2018). Since 2018 he has been Parish Priest and Rector of the Consolata Shrine, in the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
The Superior of the Consolata Missionaries in the Kenya Region, Father Zachariah Kariuki, greeted the new bishop: “Congratulations Father and may the Good Lord, who has deemed you worthy of assisting the Church of the diocese of Meru, through the intercession of Our Lady Consolata, Saint Joseph Allamano and Blessed Irene Stefani and Leonella Sgorbiati, grant you the graces necessary in your new apostolate”.
