“I come from the parish of Kangema, founded by the Consolata missionaries in 1904. There I received all the sacraments, and I also celebrated my priestly ordination in 1999,” says Father Cyrus Karuthi Mwangi, born in 1965 in Othaya, Nyeri, Kenya – the region where the first Consolata missionaries began their mission in Africa in 1902.
In his formative journey, Father Cyrus studied philosophy in Nairobi, completed his novitiate in Sagana, and studied theology in Rome, Italy. After several years of pastoral and academic work in Tanzania, he returned to Rome to further his studies. Back in Kenya today, the missionary serves as rector of the Consolata Philosophical Seminary in Nairobi, where he also teaches in the Faculty of Philosophy.
In this video recorded in Rome in May 2025 during the continuing formation program, Father Cyrus shares his life story and highlights the evangelization and human development work carried out by the Institute in Kenya, contributing to the growth of the country and the formation of the local Church. He also offers a message on the occasion of his priestly jubilee.
“We thank the Lord because He is always faithful. Despite the situations in which we find ourselves as human beings, He remains faithful. His hand is always ready to accompany us and help us along our journey. I am deeply grateful for this gift that the Lord has given me.”
