Photos: Daniel Mkado<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Bishop James Maria Wainaina Kung\u2019u of the catholic diocese of Murang\u2019a, Kenya has called on missionaries to live a life according to their calling and not behave like the pharisees and the scribes in the Bible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>By Fr Daniel Onyango Mkado *<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bishop Wainaina was speaking on February 28, during the inaugural Mass of the 13<sup>th<\/sup> regional conference of the Consolata missionaries in Kenya that is underway at Bethany House, Sagana, some 100Kms north of Nairobi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs you sit down in the next few days to reflect on your mission to the people of God, let Him guide your thoughts\u201d said Bishop Wainaina as he began his homily. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bishop Wainaina expressed his wish that the delegates may focus during the conference which he termed as, a spiritual pastoral gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-741\" srcset=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya3.jpg 1250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs missionaries we should think of ourselves as siting on the chair of Moses and the Church has given us that chair, the challenge is that what we teach is not what we live\u201d said the bishop quoting the gospel of the day from Matthew 23, 1-12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reference to the mention of Moses in the Gospel of the day, the bishop said that Moses was very well prepared for his mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs religious, missionaries, you take many years of formation before you are ordained priests or take your final vows\u201d he reminded the missionaries adding that this preparation makes \u201cyou truly people who are ready for the mission that God has called you to\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the reason why this conference is important, it is important because it calls you to go back to being true Mosesses rather than being scribes and pharisees of our day\u201d said bishop Wainana, the third bishop of Murang\u2019a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"613\" src=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya-1024x613.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya-1024x613.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya-768x460.jpg 768w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240228Kenya.jpg 1250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In his homily, the bishop challenged the delegates to be true Mosesses of our days and by so doing shepherd the people of God, feed them, lead them and protect them because that\u2019s the work of a shepherd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Bible, the pharisees and the scribes are known to centre their lives on themselves. \u201cWhere is your life centered. Is it centered on God? Is it centered on the right values and beliefs? Inquired the bishop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is always our challenge.
