Josiah Asa K\u2019Okal was held on Monday, January 8 before the Kenyan-born member of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consolata.us\/\">Institute of Consolata Missionaries<\/a>(IMC) who is said to have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aciafrica.org\/news\/9949\/kenyan-catholic-missionary-priest-dies-in-unclear-circumstances-in-venezuela\">died in unclear circumstances<\/a>&nbsp;was laid to rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Tuesday,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/theseed.mag?mibextid=ZbWKwL\">January 9 Facebook posts<\/a>, the Seed Publication of the Consolata Missionaries indicates that the Warao people from several indigenous communities that Fr. K\u2019Okal evangelized in Venezuela filled the Cathedral to eulogize the Catholic Priest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs in the tradition of the Warao people, dozens of indigenous people from the communities where Fr K\u2019Okal evangelized, remained in the Cathedral, in front of the coffin with the remains of the Consolata priest,\u201d the Seed has reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nairobi-based publication has further reported that the Local Ordinary of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tucupita, Bishop&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic-hierarchy.org\/bishop\/bromriv.html\">Ernesto Jos\u00e9&nbsp;Romero Rivas<\/a>, presided over the Holy Eucharist, with his confreres, members of the&nbsp;Order of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capuchins.org\/who-are-we\">Friars Minor Capuchin<\/a>&nbsp;(O.F.M Cap) and those of IMC, including the&nbsp;Superior of the delegation in Venezuela, Fr. Nebyu El\u00edas, among the concelebrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the Requiem Mass, the remains of Fr. K\u2019Okal were transferred to the Parish of San Jos\u00e9 where the burial was to take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>n Kenya, IMC members have organized two funeral Masses for Fr. K\u2019Okal: the Thursday, January 11 Holy Mass to be celebrated from 11 a.m. in Gem where he was born in Kenya\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kccb.or.ke\/index.php\/archdiocese-of-kisumu-metropolitan-see\/\">Archdiocese of Kisumu<\/a>, and the Friday, January 12 one to be celebrated from 3 p.m. at Consolata Shrine in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/archdioceseofnairobi.org\/?page_id=4170\">Archdiocese of Nairobi<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fr. K\u2019Okal went missing on January 1 in the town of Guara, Monagas State in Venezuela, only to be found dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cause of the death of&nbsp; the 54-year-old Catholic Missionary Priest whose body was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiofeyalegrianoticias.com\/encuentran-sin-vida-al-sacerdote-josiah-kokal\/#google_vignette\">&nbsp;reportedly<\/a>&nbsp;found on the morning of January 2 in a forest by Venezuelan authorities, has not been established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Agenzia Fides, the IMC member left his residence in Paloma Sector, Tucupita Municipality, on his bicycle at around 9 a.m. on January 1 without his phone or any identification document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is said to have visited residents of the Janokosebe settlement on a section of the national highway before he disappeared at around 11 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in September 1969 in Siaya County in Kenya\u2019s Archdiocese of Kisumu, Fr. K\u2019Okal took his vows as a Consolata Missionary in 1993.
