The celebration took place at the parish of Saint Margaret Martyr in Curitiba, Brazil, and was presided over by the Metropolitan Archbishop, Msgr. Jos\u00e9 Ant\u00f4nio Peruzzo.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>By Editor *<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the homily, Msgr. Peruzzo moved those present by recalling his youthful fascination with Africa, when, as a seminarian, he admired the culture, the joy, and the hospitality of African peoples. He addressed the new deacons directly, urging them always to keep alive the flame of their missionary calling and to remain vigilant over themselves: \u201cYou didn\u2019t know how to speak the new language, nor did you know the paths the Lord was preparing for you. But He came first. God always comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"612\" src=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono4-1024x612.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3780\" srcset=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono4-1024x612.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono4-300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono4-768x459.jpg 768w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono4.jpg 1230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The archbishop warned of the risk that the mission might lose its essence and become merely a routine or a task.\u201cMission is not only what we do; it is what we are,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing inspiration from the day\u2019s Gospel, he emphasized Jesus\u2019s invitation to go without purse or sandals, signaling the urgency of evangelization and radical trust in God: \u201cEvangelizing is an urgent cause. Bringing God\u2019s Word allows no delays. Mission requires faith, detachment, and holy haste.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ordena\u00e7\u00e3o diaconal de Ben Nyongesa e Garuma Barkhessa\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ULekWKBqn8o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Msgr. Peruzzo also encouraged the new deacons never to lose sight of their roots and their cultural identity: \u201cNever forget your story, your identity. Never lose what made you say \u2018yes\u2019 to the mission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ben Nyongesa, from Kenya, and Garuma Barkessa, from Ethiopia, professed their perpetual vows on May 4 this year, together with their fellow students from the International Theological Seminary in S\u00e3o Paulo\u2014Gerald Ngula, Henry Anyine, and Prosper Lupeke\u2014at Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish in S\u00e3o Paulo (SP). Gerald, Henry, and Prosper were ordained deacons on June 21 at the Consolata Parish in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono5-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono5-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono5-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono5-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/consolataafrica.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20250710Diacono5.jpg 1230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The solemn Eucharistic celebration in Curitiba was attended by the Regional Superior of the Consolata Missionaries, Father Paulo Mz\u00e9, as well as the Rector of the International Seminary Jo\u00e3o Batista Bisio, Father Mauricio Guevara; Father Patrick Shija, formator at the Philosophical Seminary; Father Osmar Zucatto, parochial vicar; Father Tamrat Mitore, parish priest in Cascavel; and Father Thiago Silva, a Brazilian missionary working in Taiwan. These brothers left their homelands to embrace the Gospel as their horizon. May they be signs of hope and fraternity wherever they find themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the celebration, the community gathered in the parish hall to celebrate not only the ordination but also the renewed missionary commitment to bringing the Gospel to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"fonte\"><em>* Communication IMC Brazil.
